Hello, my name is Vlad Kalinin
Let me tell you about 3 "eras" of my life!

Pre-Air Force Era
April 2010 – September 2016
In 2010, my family’s life took a drastic turn when we immigrated from Ukraine to the Seattle area in the United States. The transition was challenging for all of us, but for me, starting 8th grade in a completely new country was an experience unlike anything I had ever known.
During middle school, I discovered wrestling through winter sports, and to my surprise, I excelled at it. That passion carried over into high school, where I wrestled all four years, pushing myself to improve every season. By my senior year, my hard work paid off—I placed 2nd in State, it was a defining moment in my athletic career. It earned me a partial scholarship to wrestle for the only college wrestling program in Washington State.
However, after a year, I realized my passion for wrestling had faded. I found myself searching for something more—a greater purpose, a challenge that would truly push me beyond my limits. That’s when I made the life-changing decision to join the United States Air Force. It was a choice that would redefine my path, shaping me into the person I am today.

Air Force Era
September 2016 – October 2024
By the time I decided to join the military, my brother had already been serving in the Air Force for two years. Naturally, that became the branch I chose as well. Wanting to ship out as quickly as possible, I picked a Security Forces career field—without realizing just how much it would shape my life.
What followed was an intense and unforgettable journey. Over eight years of service, I completed three different deployments, experienced two permanent change of stations, gained my Bachelor’s degree and attended numerous leadership courses that pushed me to grow both professionally and personally. One of the most defining aspects of my career was conducting over 100 airlift missions across more than 40 countries, exposing me to places, challenges, and experiences that would stay with me forever.
The military didn’t just change my path—it transformed me, instilling discipline, resilience, and a perspective on life that I carry with me to this day.

Post-Air Force Era
October 2024 – Present
Since separating from the Air Force in October 2024, I’ve taken the time to focus on myself and navigate life in the civilian world. After eight years of military service, stepping into this new chapter has been both exciting and challenging—an entirely different journey from what I’ve known.
As I transitioned, I realized just how many people are interested in joining the military, yet reliable, firsthand information about the enlistment process, specific jobs, and military life is hard to find. That’s why I created this blog—to share my personal experiences, insights, and advice to help others make informed decisions about their military careers.
Currently, I’m in the process of applying to return to school for my Master’s degree using my GI Bill—a new challenge that requires me to navigate education, finances, and life independently. Transitioning out of the military is an adjustment that many veterans struggle with, and I’m learning firsthand what it takes to adapt. Through this blog, I hope to not only guide those looking to join but also support fellow veterans facing the realities of life after service.
